Social Responsibility and Community Development-

Social responsibility is inbuilt in the vision and mission of the college founders. Service is one of the core values of the institution and hence plans various activities to foster social consciousness among the students. It firmly believes in being a channel to serve the needs of the society. Realizing the demand and need of the subject college has a community development committee to coordinate and monitor the work.

  Arya Mahila PG College realising its social responsibility has always given prime focus to develop social consciousness with the objective to motivate the students to act with responsibility towards the society to preserve human and environment resources. One of the notable areas of distinctiveness is the extension and outreach activities of the college. The different departments of the college both PG and UG emphasizes reaching out to the different marginalized sections of the society with special focus on research and extension .The institution strongly believes in taking the teaching and learning beyond the four walls of classrooms and focusing on the application of the training and instruction to the community at large for improving the status and quality of life of the people in general. The institution being a women’s college is a pioneer in women’s education and empowerment and through extension and outreach activities reaches out to the womenfolk of the community. Recognizing it college has undertaken following steps -

 

A. UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN  : Arya Mahila P.G. College has been enrolled in Unnat Bharat Abhiyan a flagship programme of MHRD and the College has adopted five villages of Kashi Vidyapeeth block in consultation with district collector for rural development, to take care of women and children welfare and their education, health and hygiene, sanitation etc.

Under UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN the principal and the faculty attended Orientation programme on 25th April 2018 and UBA programme was formally launched by Shri Prakash Javedkar Ji honorable Minister HRD. Under UBA the College Home Science teacher Dr. Richa Mishra is the Nodal officer of the scheme and she undertook Swachcha Bharat Summer Internship at Bhullanpur from 6th June to 6th July. Apart from Sanitation girls were educated about menstrual, Health & Nutrition and various other govt. schemes of rural women like Janani Suraksha Yojana and others. College 135 students participated in this programme and they collected kids between 1-10 yrs and trained them by demonstration of hand wash methods given by WHO. The students informed and sensitized village women for facilities provided by PHC and Asha workers.

 

B. ANNAPURNA ANNA KSHETRA  TRUST - Home science department is working in collaboration with Kashi Annapurna Anna Kshetra Trust for giving one year free diploma in Cutting and Tailoring to the poor and needy girls and women. Trust provides them free sewing machine every year.

 

C.YOUTH EXCELLENCE PROGRAMME -

College has MOU with Aurobindo Society and a large section of the faculty are member of this society and the college and the society have been working together for many years to motivate the youth and to connect the young generation with the nationalistic spirits, culture and universal values.

 

D. The college has been purchasing furniture made by Prisoners of Central Jail of Varanasi for past many years and the college is also supporting poor schools situated in remote areas of Varanasi by providing furniture, reading material and other necessary items.

 

 E.COMMUNITY COLLEGE STATUS- Arya Mahila PG College got the status of COMMUNITY COLLEG by UGC under NSQF( i.e National Skill Development and Quality Framework) in the year 2018-19 and college started two diploma courses-

1. One Year Diploma Course in Food Processing.

2. One Year Diploma in Information Technology.

 

In the session 2020-21 under community college Arya Mahila P.G. College, Varanasi is running P.G. Diploma programme – ‘Health Care / Counseling Practitioner Certificate’.

 

F. College has four units of NSS which engages with local community to render their services throughout the year.

  

G. DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES                  

 

  • The Department of Education has organized one day Gender Sensitization programme and visited to ‘Panini Kanya Mahavidyalay’ Mehmoorganj, Varanasi on 25-10-2018,the objective of this program was to appreciate the dedication of girls in chanting of Vedic mantras-a stereo type profession of male Brahmins, which was performed by male in ancient.48 students participated in this.

     

  • B.Ed students performed an extension activity Nukkad Natak titled “Cyber Crime” and “Voter’s awareness” at Assi Ghat (bank of Ganga) for public awareness of responsibilities. The programme was organized on 09-03-2019 and 43 students actively participated in the programme.

     

  • Voting Awareness programme was organized by Department of Education. Another Nukkad Natak was based on people’s awareness of their voting rights. This was performed in the campus of Arya Mahila P.G. College, Varanasi on 30-03-2019. This was enacted before the voting date of Indian general election of 2019. This event sensitized the students about their voting rights and also helped them to understand their responsibility towards Indian democracy. This Nukkad Natak was recorded on 10th April, 2019 to show it in rural areas for generating awareness of voting rights among the people of rural areas and also at different places to spread the awareness of voting rights in Varanasi. Forty three (43) students participated in it.

     

     

  • The Department of Commerce has organized one day extension activity at orphanage home APANA GHAR. Total 70 students participated in this activity along with faculty members.

     

  • Nukkad Natak played by the students of commerce on the occasion of International Women’s Day (8th March, 2019) .The aim of this event was Beti Bacho, Beti Padho and Bhroon Hatya. More than 20 students were performed this event and 150 students were participated in this program along with five faculty members of the department.

     

  • On 7th March 2019, the Department with Lions Club Varanasi has organized a seminar on Role of Women in Empowerment of Women at Sharda Ashram, Pichas Mochan,Varanasi. The keynote Speaker was Dr. Bhavana Trivedi. Sixty Students participated in this Programme.

     

  • Department with Prakirti Foundation has organized Awareness Programme on ‘Green Earth for Today and Tomorrow’ on 09 March 2019 at Koirajpur, Haraua, Varanasi.With the collaboration of Prkriti Foundation department of political science visited a village nearby Varanasi airport road for awareness programme. Department’s students and teachers organized a dialogue with villagers to know the problems of local community and make them aware government’s plan. In this session we approached the pradhan of the village too. Students of the department performed nukkad natak to make villagers aware for beti bacho and beti padho. We found there the problem of drinking water and suggested them to write government through their pradhan. One hundred students participated in this programme for environment.
  • On the occasion of “World suicide prevention day”, 10 September 2018, department of psychology organized a prevention awareness rally to Chetganj , Beniya bagh and adjacent areas. Students carried various slogans and play cards to motivate the residents and passengers passing those areas .Main theme of the rally were to make people aware about
  • Peace march was organized by the College with Department of Political Science and Sanskrit on 20-02-2019. More than 2000 students and all teaching and Non-teaching staff actively participated in this peace march. This march was against terrorism and in respect to our martyrs. This march was started from College campus to Teliyabagh Chauraha via Sampoornanand Sanskrit University.

 

Impact on the Institution: Faculty and the students of the institution came to understand the rural realities, identified and selected the existing innovative technologies, spread awareness about various government schemes. The institution customize and implement the govt. schemes and implement as per local needs and the institution devise systems for smooth implementation of various govt schemes. It is a working and learning experience for the institution and the students. The institution works on a govt project and adds on with innovation. The institution empowers the deprived section of the society by giving them vocational skill. The students of our college keep visiting orphanages, old age homes, kiran society, ashrams to render their services to the needy.

The institution takes the responsibility to develop students with social responsibility and to take students beyond the four walls of the classroom and to work in virtual areas and understand the ground realities and enable the students to broaden their horizon and vision. . College students keep organizing nukkad natak, rallies, short plays, swachchata abhiyan on the ganga ghats of Varanasi and many other such activities to engage with the community to address many educational and social issues.
